Ticket sales on hold as Cobalt awaits vital licence

Cypriot airline Cobalt received its operating licence on Tuesday, 27 days after the Department of Civil Aviation issued the company its air operator certificate, a company spokesman said.

“We managed to get our licence today,” Philokypros Rousounides, senior vice president of corporate affairs said in a telephone interview on Wednesday.

“Ticket sales at our website will commence at 4pm today and we will begin with our flight programme on July 7.

Rousounides said that Cobalt will initially fly to London, Manchester, Athens, Thessaloniki and Iraklion, before expanding its flight schedule to other destinations later on.

The delay in acquiring its commercial licence from the Air Transport Licencing Authority, required by Cobalt to sell tickets to passengers, was related to questions over the ownership of the company’s shares.
