An Aegean airline flight about to depart from Larnaca to London on Sunday afternoon was cancelled after the crew found a note written by a passenger that was deemed suspicious.
The note, written by a 21-year-old British national of Pakistani origin, read “if I die I die slowly.” It was found by the crew as the plane was taxiing towards the runway.
When the pilot was informed of the note he decided to abort the flight. After the passengers and crew disembarked police searched the plane for explosives but didn’t find anything.
The 21-year-old man was arrested and questioned.
During the brief questioning it was decided that he needed a psychiatric evaluation and for this purpose a court order was secured.
A subsequent examination by a government psychiatrist determined that he needed hospitalisation and he was transferred to the psychiatric facility in Athalassa in Nicosia.
The passengers were flown to London on another flight.
