Port pilots announced a 24-hour for Monday demanding the termination of a disciplinary probe against the chairman of the union of ports authority workers (SYALK).

Demetris Patsalos is being investigated for allegedly defaming the ports authority (CPA) through his correspondence, statements, and articles concerning the call for tender on the pilot and towage services in Vassiliko.

If it goes ahead, it would be the third strike port workers stage for this reason.

In a letter to the chairman of the CPA, the pilots reaffirmed their support for Patsalos and warned that they would escalate their measures.

“He was acting as the chairman of the union, reporting actions that hurt the authority, and also negatively affected the pilot service,” the letter said.

The pilots said the issue must be handled by the labour relations department of the ministry of labour.

“Otherwise, or in the event of a damning decision against the chairman of the union, we will be forced to implement the decision of the general assembly to escalate the measures across all sectors,” the letter said.
