
A 60-year-old man was killed in Paphos on Friday evening after his vehicle crashed head-on into a car driven by a tourist.
The collision took place at around 8.40pm on the Neo Horio to Latsi road, police said. A Russian visitor, 35, driving a rental car, collided with Vasos Herodotou’s vehicle under circumstances being investigated by police.
The 60-year-old was trapped in his car and had to be freed by the fire service. He was rushed to Polis hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The tourist was also treated in hospital and discharged. He was later arrested by police. A preliminary breathalyser test found an alcohol level of 139 microgrammes in his system. The legal limit is 22 microgrammes.
On Saturday, the Russian national was remanded in custody for four days.
The victim worked as a watchman for a business located in the area. A post mortem is scheduled for Monday.
