A woman died on Friday after slamming into an electricity pole with her car, which caught fire, police said.
The accident happened on the road the Fasoula to Limassol road at around 10am.
Reports said a passerby tried to help the woman, Maro Theodoulou, who was trying to rescue her dog, which was also in the vehicle.
The car then burst into flames killing the woman. The blaze also spread in the area burning about 10 hectares of wild vegetation and a number of trees.
By 1.30pm it was put under control with the help of 12 fire trucks from the fire service, the forestry department, district administration and local councils.
Two helicopters were deployed from police and one from the British bases.
It was the second road death in Limassol in a couple of hours.
Earlier, an 81-year-old woman Maroulla Georgiou Paraskeva was killed after she was hit by a car while crossing the road.
The car’s driver, a female police officer aged 33, was on her way to work at 7am when the incident happened on Misiaouli and Kavazoglou Street.
After realising what happened, she suffered a nervous breakdown and was taken to Limassol general hospital.
According to traffic police officer Emilios Kafas, the policewoman was driving at normal speed and a breathalyser test she took showed zero alcohol levels.
