Police are planning an island-wide seatbelt campaign in the week starting Monday, August 15, as part of efforts to prevent and reduce road traffic collisions, particularly serious and fatal ones.
During the campaign, special attention will be paid to the use of seatbelts by passengers in the back of vehicles, where their use is much lower compared with those at the front.
The proper use of child seats will also come under scrutiny.
Police said the aim of the campaign is to raise awareness among drivers and passengers so that on entering a vehicle, they wear their seatbelt. The purpose being to reduce and prevent serious and fatal injuries during collisions.
Cyprus’ figures for dead drivers and passengers not wearing seatbelts during accidents improved considerably in 2015, at 54 per cent, down from the 66 per cent average between 2010 and 2014.
