Taxi drivers protested outside the transport ministry on Wednesday in an ongoing effort to have their demands met.

A number of Nicosia urban taxi drivers lined up their vehicles in front of the ministry, and a representative handed a memo to Transport Minister Marios Demetriades outlining their issues.

The minister responded by saying that he was in constant dialogue with the drivers and together they could find solutions.

In addition, he announced there would be a meeting with the licensing authority, as one of the demands was about unfair licensing.

Other demands are that the ministry should help fight illegal competition and unfair competition.

The protest is one of a series of peaceful events. President of the taxi drivers association Panayiotis Kyllilis said on Wednesday that next week a memo would be delivered to President Nicos Anastasiades as another step. He has repeatedly warned that if the situation was not resolved, other stronger actions would follow by the end of February.

“You cannot imagine what will happen. Drivers are at their limit and are fed up,” he stated.
