More than one million passengers travelled via the Republic’s two international airports in October, setting a new record, it was announced on Friday.
“Between October 1 and October 31 this year, 738,275 passengers passed through Larnaca international airport, and Paphos international airport handled 270,983 passengers,” airport operator Hermes announced.
Hermes added that “for the first time in the history of Larnaca and Paphos airports, passenger traffic for the month of October surpassed one million passengers.”
In total, the airports handled 1,009,258 passengers, a 31.5 per cent rise, compared with 767,321 travellers during the same period last year.
According to Hermes, the biggest increases were recorded in passenger traffic from Russia, Greece, the UK, Israel, Switzerland, and Ukraine.
“It is particularly encouraging that the numbers are growing at a time of the year with traditionally less traffic,” CEO Eleni Kaloyirou said. “This is likely to continue during the winter months, which proves that it is an attainable goal to reduce seasonality and promote Cyprus as a full-time destination.”
