One of the lanes of the Limassol to Nicosia highway near the Chirokitia exit closed on Friday after a petrol tanker jackknifed.
Police said there were no injuries and no other cars were involved.
Traffic was diverted through the other lane until the road reopened around two hours later.
An eyewitness told the Cyprus Mail that the tanker was full of fuel and “gallons and gallons are pouring out”.
Police urged motorists to be very careful and patient and comply with traffic signals and officers’ directions.
