A 49-year-old man was killed on Friday evening after the motorcycle his was driving slammed into a car in Limassol.

The driver of the car was in serious but not life threatening condition, police said.

Costas Constantinou, from the village of Souni, collided head-on with a car driven by a 56-year-old on the Kantou-Souni main road.

Police said the accident happened at 7.25pm. It appears that Constantinou had not been wearing a crash helmet.

The driver of the car, who was driving without a seatbelt, suffered multiple injuries to his face, a fractured pelvis and hip, and bruising to his spleen and liver.

Because of his condition, the man could not undergo a breathalyser test and a blood sample was taken to check whether he had any alcohol in his system during the crash.

Traffic police were investigating the incident in a bid to determine the circumstances.

This was the second road death in less than 24 hours.

A 22-year-old man died early on Friday in a car crash in the Nicosia district village of Ayia Varvara.

Christos Peppos, from Pera Horio, died after his car veered off course and crashed into an electricity pole before coming to a halt on a concrete pillar.
