A 77-year-old man is suspected of forging a death certificate to avoid a medical examination to determine whether he was fit to drive, it emerged on Thursday.
On Thursday, police said the elderly man was caught driving dangerously and after notifying the road transport department, the 77-year-old was called for a medical to see if he was fit to drive.
However, instead of appearing for the test, the department received a letter saying the 77-year-old was dead, signed by a relative and accompanied with a death certificate as proof.
Meanwhile, the man continued to drive and police caught him again a few months later — earlier this week – prompting them to ask the road transport department the reason he was still on the road.
They were told he had been declared dead and police were now trying to determine who was involved in forging the documents.
