A 47-year-old man was arrested on Sunday evening on suspicion of causing a road accident in Nicosia while driving under the influence of alcohol.
The incident took place at around 8pm.
The 47-year-old collided with a car driven by a 23-year-old under conditions that are under investigation, police said.
Both drivers were injured and taken to Nicosia general hospital.
The 23-year-old was kept for observation as a precaution while the 47-year old received first aid and was released.
He was arrested after a breathalyser test showed the alcohol level in his system to be over the legal limit — 68 micrograms instead of 22.
